From Synodal Consensus to Concrete Transformation

Jakarta, June 2026 — Catholic education in Indonesia is entering a new chapter. Following the successful formulation of a national synodal consensus in 2025, leaders and stakeholders in Catholic education from across Indonesia will reconvene at the Second Indonesian Catholic Education Synodal Conference (KOSDIK II), to be held on 24–26 June 2026 at the Indonesian Bishops' Conference (KWI) Conference Center in Jakarta.

KOSDIK II is organized by the Education Commission of the Indonesian Bishops' Conference (KWI) in collaboration with the Association of Catholic Higher Education Institutions (APTIK), the National Council for Catholic Education (MNPK), and the Association of Indonesian Vocational Academic Leaders (PPAVI). The conference serves as a concrete follow-up to the synodal agreements reached during the first KOSDIK.

This national forum comes at a pivotal moment. Catholic education in Indonesia faces significant challenges, including rapid social transformation, rising demands for educational quality, advances in technology and artificial intelligence, intensifying global competition, and the need for professional, adaptive, and sustainable institutional governance. Against this backdrop, KOSDIK II is founded on a fundamental conviction: the future of Catholic education in Indonesia can only be built through organized collaboration, sustained synergy, and a shared commitment to collective action.

KOSDIK I produced a shared national consensus—however, such a consensus gains meaning only when translated into concrete action. KOSDIK II therefore provides a collaborative platform for transforming the synodal vision into policies, programs, and implementation mechanisms that Catholic educational institutions throughout Indonesia can adopt.

During the conference, the four Task Forces established following KOSDIK I will present and deliberate on their Concrete Action Plans (Rencana Aksi Nyata – RAN) in four strategic areas:

  • Institutional Governance;
  • Human Resource Development and Capacity Building;
  • Development of the Catholic Excellence School Curriculum;
  • Catholic Education Regulations.

The outcomes of these discussions will form the foundation for developing and adopting the Roadmap for Catholic Education in Indonesia, a strategic document intended to provide a common direction for all stakeholders in advancing Catholic education that is excellent, relevant, and impactful for the nation. Furthermore, KOSDIK II aims to establish a national agreement on implementation, monitoring, and evaluation mechanisms to ensure that the initiatives emerging from the conference move beyond discussion and produce measurable, sustainable change.

The spirit underpinning KOSDIK II is that of synodality—listening, dialogue, and walking together. Catholic education in Indonesia cannot flourish through fragmented and isolated efforts. The challenges it faces are too great to be addressed individually. KOSDIK II therefore calls upon every component of Catholic education to foster a stronger culture of collaboration, mutual trust, shared support, and collective enrichment for the common good.

The conference will bring together leaders of Catholic educational institutions from various levels, including Diocesan Education Commissions, Catholic educational foundations, Catholic universities and colleges, MNPK, MPK, PPAVI, APTIK, and other stakeholders actively engaged in Catholic education throughout Indonesia.

Ultimately, KOSDIK II is more than a conference. It is a collective movement to strengthen the identity of Catholic education, enhance its quality, expand its impact, and ensure its long-term sustainability amid an increasingly complex and rapidly changing world. Through KOSDIK II, the entire Catholic education community in Indonesia reaffirms its commitment to building an educational ecosystem that is high-quality, values-based, dignified, and sustainable, while making a meaningful contribution to the development of the Indonesian people and the future of the nation.
