Wednesday, May 20, 2026. The Indonesian Vocational Academy Leadership Association (PPAVI) held an "Online Curriculum Discussion Forum." This event aims to align graduate competencies with the needs of hospitals. The forum was attended by 16 higher education institutions that are members of PPAVI and 42 other participants, initiated by the Institutional, Education, and Training Commission of PPAVI, in commemoration of National Awakening Day.
This discussion represents a shared commitment to improving the quality of vocational education and strengthening the alignment of graduate competencies with the needs of the job market, particularly in the healthcare sector. This forum serves as a meeting and dialogue space between health study programs of PPAVI members and the graduates' users (stakeholders) from hospitals.
This activity also serves as a pilot project in the healthcare field, which is expected to be a starting point in developing a curriculum collaboration model based on the needs of the job market. Although the main focus is on healthcare, study programs from other fields are still given the opportunity to participate as part of the joint learning process and future collaboration development.
This event featured speakers from several hospitals, including:
Through this discussion forum, questions arose regarding the recruitment process for healthcare personnel. Each speaker provided similar answers, emphasizing their unique aspects. There was a push to formulate uniform requirements to maintain the quality of graduates and to create mutually beneficial cooperation between higher education institutions and hospitals. Interestingly, there was a desire to share resources among PPAVI members from Sabang to Merauke, so that each could strengthen their advantages and address their shortcomings.
The discussion resulted in constructive dialogue between higher education institutions and stakeholders, aimed at identifying and developing sustainable cooperation opportunities. Additionally, this forum aims to develop a curriculum that is relevant to the needs of the job market and to encourage the establishment of trusting and supportive relationships between educational institutions and the healthcare service sector.
In the discussion session, the speakers also presented various recommendations for curriculum development that are relevant to the current needs of hospitals and healthcare services. Some of these recommendations include strengthening safety and quality service competencies, effective communication through SBAR techniques and readback, developing specialized nursing such as palliative care and modern wound care, strengthening spiritual competencies as holistic care, enhancing technical and clinical competencies based on evidence-based nursing, strengthening soft skills and nurse character, improving foreign language skills, developing elective courses related to digital technology, and enhancing leadership and innovation aspects. Finally, there is great hope among the discussion participants to build stronger synergy among PPAVI members and healthcare service stakeholders in preparing competent, adaptive graduates ready to face the dynamics of the job market in the future.
